More than 700 National Grid customers remain without power Wednesday in Buffalo's Kaisertown.

National Grid said he outage is the result of an underground cable fault. The outage initially impacted more than 900 customers Wednesday morning, but crews were able to restore power for about 200 customers.

However, National Grid said due to the nature of the work the remaining, customers could be without power until late Wednesday night, possibly until 11 p.m. or later.

"We have made arrangements for a warming station for these customers at the Winchester Elementary School at 650 Harlem Rd. in West Seneca, near the area affected by the outage.  The warming station will be open from 4 p.m. until midnight," said Steve Brady, National Grid spokesman.

There is no specific cause of the power outage at this time.

"We don’t have a specific cause of the outage, but crews are working to string to temporary overhead lines to restore service will the more complex work of replacing the underground cable takes place.  Crews will be on the scene until all service has been restored," Brady stated.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross opened the evacuation center for residents affected by a power outage inside the school.

"Volunteers will offer a warmth, food and drink, comfort and support to families affected by this power outage. At this time, the center is expected to close, with an estimated power restoration at midnight; however, the center could become an overnight shelter if needed," stated Jay Bonafede, Chief Communications Officer, American Red Cross Western and Central New York Region.

Late Wednesday, National Grid issued a statement saying power for the last customers was restored as of about 10:45 p.m.
