If someone hands you a pink envelope today, consider yourself very fortunate. Members of a group called Awesome Buffalo will be passing out envelopes containing ten dollars for the recipient to use as they please. The hope is that the money will inspire further acts of kindness. Jessica Trace helped bring the organization to Buffalo because she thought the city was ready for such philanthropy.
"It's just money from people's pockets. There's no strings. There's no formal grant process. It's just cash handed over to somebody to really just start something, and I thought that concept was really different and that Buffalo in the state that it's in really needed it."
The Awesome Foundation is a global organization that typically awards grants of $1000 each for community related projects. Today's effort will distribute $1000 in ten dollar increments to touch a wider array of people.
The envelope distribution will begin in the Canalside area before spreading throughout the city.
