Plans announced for annual First Night Buffalo celebration

Michael Mroziak, WBFO

The annual alcohol-free, family-friendly New Year's Eve celebration, known as First Night Buffalo, will again be held inside the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center. Event partners offered a preview of this year's activities.

Performances, games and various forms of family-friendly entertainment will again be plentiful.

"We have the Animal Guy coming, carnival rides, bounce houses, comedy shows, and a wide variety of entertainment for all ages," said Carrie Meyer, executive director of the Independent Health Foundation, one of the event's backers.

There will also be a program known as The Future is Bright, showcasing local school children and how they are adapting and overcoming life's challenges to lead healthy and productive lives. Several local students, during the event preview, held up posters bearing the phrase "The Future Is Bright" in their respective native languages.

"There is a total of 180 children in the Leaders In Training program that we work with," Meyer said. "We work with those children to also become health advocates in their schools. The 180 children all had the opportunity to write that their future is bright. We're going to be showcasing that on New Year's Eve."

First Night Buffalo will be held Sunday, December 31 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tickets are $10 until December 15 and then $12 from December 16 and beyond. Tickets may be acquired online at firstnightbuffalo.org.
