New bridges that bring Bailey Avenue motorists over Cazenovia Creek and the Buffalo River in South Buffalo officially open to traffic Monday night.
Rep. Brian Higgins on Monday announced completion of the Bailey Avenue Bridges. They replace two 88-year-old bridges, which will be deconstructed next year and turned into green space.
Higgins says the new $22 million dollar span is the largest current public works project in the City of Buffalo.
"It's a great bridge with over 150 trees, 200 shrubs and almost 20 decorative LED lights, an attractive design and a park-like environment on both sides of the bridge," Higgins said Monday morning.
Work began in the summer of 2016. The project, completed by local contractor Union Concrete, received $15 million in federal funding.
The project, which includes full bicycle lanes, also included restoration work at nearby Mungovan Park.
