Improvements are on the way for the Clinton Street Business District in Buffalo's Kaisertown neighborhood.

The state is making $300,000 available to business owners who invest in fixing up the facade of their building. Lovejoy District Council Member, Richard Fontana says, the program drew a lot of interest and more than 17 businesses are taking part.

"It's a matching grant. You pay the funds and you get a rebate back from the state. So it's a great way to redo your storefronts at an affordable cost. So this will be a real improvement for our business strip," Fontana said.

As part of the application process, businesses had to submit details of their improvement plan. Tom Walton, a Kaisertown resident, who served on the selection committee that vetted the proposals says, it's going to make the area more attractive.

"So people, as they're walking or driving along Clinton Street, will see the improvement, because Kaisertown has a wonderful business strip that a lot people don't know about. A lot of mom and pop businesses still located here. Been here a long time."

Fontana says the "Main Streets" program in Kaisertown is being paid for through the state's Buffalo Billion economic revitalization fund.
