Albany is sending the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System some additional aid. At the Central Library, in Buffalo, Thursday, Senator Chris Jacobs said, that he's secured $120,000 in education funding for branches in his district.
Jacobs says it's flexible funding so each branch will decide how to use it.
"And I think that's great, because with twelve different communities throughout the 60th District, which goes from Grand Island to Angola, there's different needs. And their ability to tailor to the needs of their community, I think, will enable it to be that much more impactful to the citizens and the students that patronize those particular libraries," Jacobs said.
Library Director, Mary Jean Jakubowski, says she's absolutely thrilled that Jacobs has recognized that libraries are apart of education and that additional funding is always necessary.
"In some cases the monies will be put towards capital expenditures. And in other cases, we believe, that they will be using them to increase and enhance technology services as well as conduct programming, both adult programming and children programming. And that all important group of young adult programming throughout the libraries," Jakubowski said.
Securing the funds, Jacobs says, was a priority for him because libraries do so much to enhance the quality of life and learning for residents of all ages.
