Several Bills kneel during anthem, as Pegulas call out Trump for comments

Buffalo Bills

Several members of the Buffalo Bills reacted to President Trump's controversial comments about protesting professional athletes Sunday by kneeling during the national anthem before their 26-16 win over the Denver Broncos.

At a campaign rally in Alabama Friday night, Trump used crude language in saying athletes who kneel during the National Anthem should be "fired."

In a statement released Saturday night by Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula, they called Trump's comments "divisive and disrespectful to the entire NFL community." The Pegulas said Bills players have the freedom to express themselves in a "respectful and thoughtful manner."

Former Bills coach Rex Ryan, who supported and introduced Donald Trump when he held a rally in Buffalo, recently stated he is not happy with Trump's remarks about NFL players who protest.

Ryan said, "I'm reading these comments and it's appalling to me... I'm associated with what Donald Trump stands for and all that because I introduced him. I never signed up for that. I never wanted that. That doesn't mean I support 100-percent of the things he says."

Ryan is currently an analyst for ESPN.
