Comptroller Mychajliw calls NFTA agreement a "behind closed doors deal"

Elected officials are demanding more information on the ride sharing agreements between Lyft, Uber and the NFTA.

On Friday the NFTA announced a new agreement that says $180,000 will be paid to the NFTA by Uber and a $3 per trip fee will be charged to Lyft for pick up and drop off transactions to Buffalo and Niagara Falls airports.

Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw  says the NFTA made a deal behind closed doors and he requested a hearing on this matter with the Legislature. Mychajliw says he wants to ensure taxpayers are not being taken advantage of.

"We're demanding that NFTA actually show us their contracts with Uber and Lyft. Show us the facts and data of how they're going to lose money and show us the facts and data of exactly how they're going to spend this new revenue; $3  per ride to and from the airport."

Mychajliw says the agreement appears to be a "money grab" by unelected bureaucrats. The Legislature has responded to Mychajliw and will schedule and conduct a full hearing into the NFTA's actions.
