Buffalo City Hall has a new look Thursday.
Like at many government buildings, security bollards have been placed in front of the workplace of the Mayor and city officials. The large, boulder-looking structures are meant to control traffic and prevent ram raiding and vehicle ramming attacks.
They come on the same day that a gunman opened fire at a Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. However, City Hall has been in the midst of adding security measures recently. Security bollards are becoming more commonplace in a variety of open, public spaces.
Last year, the Common Council approved increasing security measures at City Hall, including armed guards, metal detectors and additional surveillance cameras.
