Niagara Falls child treated after Rottweiller attack

Niagara Falls Police are investigating a dog attack on a 7-year-old boy who was taken to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo for treatment.

Police say there were two large Rottweilers in the yard at 228 70th Street when they arrived Wednesday. The dogs, weighing as much as 160 pounds each, severely bit the child on the face and head. However, police said the injuries were not life-threatening.

Police continue to try and determine why the dogs attacked. The boy was apparently under the care of a babysitter at the time of the attack, while the dogs were properly licensed and updated with shots.

The dog's owner said Thursday she was taking the dogs to the Niagara County SPCA to have them euthanized.
