The parents of one of the victims of the 2012 Aurora Theater Shooting in Colorado are traveling nationwide to tell their story. They recently stopped in Buffalo. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley met with the Texas couple to discuss their effort to raise awareness against gun violence.
Lonnie and Sandy Phillips are from San Antonio, but they now live on the road fighting gun violence.
They are the parents of 24-year-old Jessica Ghawi killed five years ago this July in the Aurora movie theater massacre. Ironically their daughter had survived a mass shooting the month before at the Toronto Eaton Centre Mall in Canada.
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. You can learn more about the Phillips' efforts as they advocate for a safer America by reducing gun violence at their website in honor of their daughter, jessismessage.org.
