On Saturday U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer announced that congress passed the Promoting Travel, Commerce, and National Security Act of 2016.
The new legislation permits a pre-clearance program at the Peace Bridge boarder crossing. Schumer says moving the cargo pre-screening process to the Canadian side of the border will reduce pressure on the U.S. Plaza, alleviating delays and backups for passengers and commercial traffic.
The new legislation will add legal authority to the boarder, boost tourism and improve the economy.
