There's a new place for the region's nearly 5,000 nonprofits to turn to for strong leadership.
With the support of the state Attorney General's Office - the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo and nearly a dozen partners have launched charitySTRONG. Community Foundation President & CEO Clotilde Perez-Bode Dedecker says, the website offers a "Match.com" like program for potential board members.
"This innovative matching service is designed to connect community-minded individuals interested in board service to organizations seeking board members," Dedecker said.
A second program provides an online library of educational and training resources that focus on governance and nonprofit laws and regulations.
"You'll also find tools such as a checklist for evaluating an organization that may be courting you to serve on their board. Or a checklist, conversely, for evaluating perspective board candidates," Dedecker said.
According to the Community Foundation, in 2015 alone, the Western New York nonprofit sector generated $7.4 billion in revenue and held $11 billion in total assets.
