A report out of Albany is indicating that student loan debt in New York state has more than doubled over the past decade. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has revealed that student debt stands at $82 billion, up 112 percent over ten years. The number of student loan borrowers has grown sharply over the decade and so has the cost of a college education.
Another notable figure is that the average New Yorker in 2015 owed nearly 10 percent more than the national average.
Late payments by New Yorkers were also on the rise.
