Local Catholics at Vatican for Mother Teresa canonization

A group of Catholics from Buffalo was at the Vatican Sunday morning for the canonization of Mother Teresa as the Church's newest saint.

Among them was Cheryl Calire, executive director of a new shelter in Buffalo to care for women in need. The Mother Teresa Home was dedicated in late August. WBFO News reached Calire in Rome. She said the ceremony that made Mother Teresa a saint was held under sunny skies and warm temperatures. Calire said it was a "glorious" day.

"We started out at 4:00 in the morning. While we all had seats, we had to go through security checkpoints," Calire said. "It was exhilarating."

Calire said she shares Mother Teresa's philosophy that helping one person at a time does make a difference.
