The New York State Fair in Syracuse is in its final weekend. Already this year, attendance is up.
This is the first fair following a $50 million state renovation. Wider boulevards were created for fair-goers. Governor Andrew Cuomo says he will propose a second round of renovations for the fairgrounds next year.
Acting Director Troy Waffner says this year's fair has drawn more repeat visitors than in the past.
"Fair-goers love the landscaping and wider boulevards," Waffner said. "But the vendors want to narrow the aisles next year to force people more into a chute, creating a better business environment."
Waffner says the fair has drawn more visitors from Western New York, following a major state advertising push.
