ECC President Quinn set to leave next spring

WBFO News photo by Eileen Buckley

After an eight-year run, Jack Quinn, the President of Erie Community College, has announced his retirement.

"We leave ECC on the right track," Quinn told WBFO News.  "Lots more to do, but headed in the right direction."

Part of that direction includes a new $30 million STEM building on its north campus. Officials expect to break ground on the project later this week. Another positive for Quinn is employee relations with union contracts secured through the year 2020.

Enrollment, Quinn acknowledges, is, and will always be, a challenge for the college.

As for life beyond ECC, Quinn says he has no plans. Yet.

"I'm not going to fade away. I think there's other opportunities to stay involved."

His career started in teaching before politics offered a chance to become Hamburg Supervisor as that suburb began growing by leaps and bounds. That was parlayed into a lengthy stay as a U.S. Congressman.

"Western New York is our home. We'd never leave it," Quinn declared. "If there's some way I can help out the future in a less involved way, then I want to do that, that's for sure."
