A local health insurer is reporting that a data breach could have exposed personal information from local subscribers. BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York states that an unauthorized party accessed information at Newkirk Products, Incorporated. Newkirk provides the identification cards to the insurance carrier's clients. The breach was discovered last month, but it is believed to have occurred in May of this year. Data accessed could include personal information as well as details of a subscriber's healthcare plan and Medicaid ID number.
Notifications will be sent by mail to anyone affected.
There is no indication that any information has been compromised.
