US Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the Food and Drug Administration to expedite its food recall process. Schumer voiced his stance after a preliminary report was issued by the Office of the Inspector General for the US Department of Health and Human Services, noting the recall delays by the FDA. Schumer cites that the recent recall of tainted flour was issued in May, but the problem was identified in December.
Nearly 60 products have been recalled since the end of May due to bacterial contamination.
