The 18-year-old Buffalo teen who tried to unseat City School Board member Carl Paladino returned to Buffalo City Court Tuesday, but the case against Austin Harig was adjourned once again.
“Adjourned for today and it’s been adjourned every time we have been here,” said Arthur Pressman, Attorney representing Harig.
Last month Buffalo Police arrested Harig after they discovered three underage teens at his apartment. Harig was charged with allegedly providing alcoholic beverage and allowing them to smoke marijuana in his home. Harig appeared before City Court Judge James McLeod Tuesday as the case was adjourned for a fourth time.
Pressman tells WBFO News for now Harig's case is at a 'standstill' as the District Attorney asks for more time to investigate.
“It’s not unusual that these kind of cases take some time, but the burden is on them to go forward and we will react to whatever they come up with,” said Pressman. “All I know is they are still conducting an investigation and they’re requesting time to thoroughly and see if they can move forward.”
Harig pleaded not guilty. In a WBFO interview with Harig last month, he denied the charges.
"I’m quite confident the charges are going to be dropped as soon as the facts come out,” stated Harig.
Harig ran for the Park District seat against Paladino, losing by more than just 100-votes. He graduated from Hutch Tech High School in June. Harig returns to Buffalo City Court August first.
