Two lawmakers are praising the State Transportation Department for a planned study that will examine alternatives to Buffalo's Skyway.

On Sunday Congressman Brian Higgins and State Senator Tim Kennedy held a news conference saying the study will allow the community to make the best decisions moving forward. Higgins said it's time to tear down the Skyway and replace it with something new.

Higgins said it would actually be less expensive to build a new bridge rather than spending money on maintaining the Skyway for the next 50 years. Once the study is completed, Higgins said the state could then apply for federal transportation aid to tear down and replace the Skyway.
