The boil water advisory has been lifted for Northern Erie County.
On Saturday the Erie County Water Authority announced that the final water test for bacteria came back negative. The boil water advisory came after a water main break in Amherst on Wednesday. Thousands of residents were effected including restaurants and hospitals.
Customers are advised to dispose of any ice made by automatic ice makers during the notice.
The Erie County Water Authority released this online statement:
ECWA Customers may resume using water normally
Customers of the Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) system located in the Towns of Amherst, Clarence, Lancaster and areas north of Broadway in the Town of Cheektowaga and Villages of Depew, Lancaster and Williamsville no longer need to boil their tap water.
Water samples collected from the affected areas were analyzed and determined to be negative for bacteria indicating that the water was not contaminated during the recent water main break.
