Bailey Bridges to be replaced

A project to replace the Bailey Avenue bridges over the Buffalo River and Cazenovia Creek has been announced. Approval of the $20 million project came after Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz negotiated a land swap between the city and the county. Construction is expected to improve passage for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, as well as providing a kayak launch and fishing access.

Congressman Brian Higgins is very enthused about the project, stating "From Fillmore Avenue to Ohio Street and Niagara Street to Bailey Avenue we are seeing how rebuilding the city's infrastructure is creating a stronger foundation for neighborhood revitalization and business district growth. This over $20 million project, which includes $15 million in federal transportation funding, is a great project made even better thanks to the leadership and commitment from Mayor Brown for the addition of streetscape features that enhance the existing basic asphalt plan to include elements inspired by the Olmsted Master Plan."

The initiative was applauded by numerous other local politicians.

Completion is projected for 2018.
