Chris Collins enjoyed his "three minutes in the spotlight," said WBFO Correspondent Karen DeWitt regarding the local congressman's speech Tuesday night at the Republican Convention in Cleveland. Collins used the time to "bring Western New York to national attention."
Collins shared some of his thoughts with Karen DeWitt prior to his primetime speech which he used to lament "trade deals that haven't been good for Upstate New York." International trade deals have been a key part of Donald Trump's campaign.
DeWitt says Collins was able to get the "crowd riled up" about the Trump campaign.
It was a search for that Republican enthusiasm that brought Wendy Long to Cleveland on Tuesday. Long is waging what many see as a long shot campaign against Democratic incumbent Senator Charles Schumer. While DeWitt credits Long for her intelligence and standing by her conservative principles, it seemed the state delegation gave little attention to her presence at the convention.
Karen DeWitt has been providing convention analysis this week during WBFO's Morning Edition.
