Cuomo announces LGBT memorial commission

Gov. Cuomo press office

On Sunday Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order establishing a new ten member LGBT Memorial Commission.

The commission will make recommendations for the institution of a new monument to honor the LGBT community and victims of hate and violence including those killed in the recent Orlando attack.

Governor Cuomo has also declared the birthplace of the modern LGBT rights movement, The Stonewall Inn a New York State historic site.

In addition, Cuomo revealed the "Open Doors Campaign" which recognizes New York as a leader in the fight for LGBT rights, freedom and social justice. The promotional effort will be executed through broadcast and digital advertisement beginning Sunday. The campaign will run throughout the summer months in New York, North Carolina, Mississippi and Texas.
