A three day campaign to keep area waterways safe kicked off on Friday. Operation Dry Water includes the US Coast Guard, the Erie County Sheriff's Office and other authorities in an effort to crack down on boaters who are operating their vessels under the influence of alcohol or drugs. There will public education about the dangers of boating while impaired as well.
Local forces will be patrolling the Niagara River and Lake Erie.
This national campaign was introduced in 2009.
