For the third year in a row, WBFO News received top radio honors in the New York State Associated Press Association's annual awards competition.
The AP handed out radio, TV and newspaper awards at a ceremony in Saratoga Springs Saturday night. Senior Director of News and Public Affairs Brian Meyer was on hand to receive WBFO's award for "Outstanding News Operation" in its radio class (all stations across the state, outside of New York City).
WBFO received four first place awards -- the most of any radio station in its class.
Senior Reporter Eileen Buckley once again received top honors, taking first place in the Best Reporter or Anchor category. Canadian Correspondent Dan Karpenchuk won first place for Investigative Reporting with his story, "The dying of the bees." Assistant News Director Omar Fetouh, Morning Edition Host Jay Moran, and Reporter Michael Mroziak won first place for Sports Coverage, with their work on "The Buffalo Sabres' Race to the Bottom." WBFO and its staff also won first place for Digital Presence.
WBFO also won eight special mentions. They include:
- Reporter Michael Mroziak in the Best Reporter or Anchor category
- WBFO and its staff in the Newscast category
- WBFO and its staff in the Spot News Coverage category
- WBFO and its staff in the Continuing Coverage category
- Senior Reporter Eileen Buckley, Morning Edition Host Jay Moran, Reporter Michael Mroziak, Reporter/Host Avery Schneider, and Former Morning Edition Producer Cheryl Hagen in the Public Service category
- Former Morning Edition Producer Cheryl Hagen in the Documentary category
- Reporter/Host Avery Schneider in the Enterprise Reporting category
- WBFO Sports Analyst Matt Sabuda in the Sports Feature category
