Police crack down on seat belt violations

courtesy Erie County Sheriff's Department

The annual Click it or Ticket campaign will run May 23 through June 5.

On Saturday morning Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard announced  that authorities want to make sure people are buckling up before the holiday and vacation season begins.

Officers will be taking no excuses for seat belt violations and will be writing citations both day and night. The maximum penalty for riding without a seat belt is $150 for the first offense. The sheriff's office says there will be road patrols and possibly road check sites throughout the county during the campaign.
