The Buffalo and Erie County Public Library has a new high-tech bookmobile. The old one was scrapped just over ten years ago during the County's fiscal crisis.
Library Director, Mary Jean Jakubowski says, the "Library on Wheels" has a dozen laptops, WiFi hotspot, and 3,000 books and DVDs. Weather permitting, Jakubowski says, patrons can even pull up a chair under the awning.
"We look forward to being out there where everyone is. In the parks. At the festivals. At the events around Buffalo and Erie County. We definitely have listened to what people have said to us. And that is, they 'wanted to see a vehicle back on the road.' Here we are today," Jakubowski said.
Along with borrowing and returning materials, the bookmobile provides access to downloadable books and music. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz says, residents are "getting a tremendous asset" for $250,000.
The new bookmobile is scheduled to begin service next week.
