To help job seekers in targeted local areas, the New York state Labor Department has opened five satellite career centers. The initiative, known as the Western New York Employment Strikeforce,is modeled after a successful program in the Bronx that has secured over 17,000 job placements since its launch in 2014. The initiative includes business-driven, skills-based training, to help the unemployed land a stable job. The new satellite Career Center Offices are now serving residents in Buffalo, Lackawanna, and Niagara Falls.
