Outer Harbor project faces review from Preservation Board

from Trautman Associates

A controversial Outer Harbor project could be considered as early as next week by Buffalo's Preservation Board. Local developer Gerry Bucheit wants to replace the old Freezer Queen plant off Fuhrmann Boulevard with a 23-story apartment building.

Preservation Board Chair Paul McDonald says more information is needed from the developer.

"The area of the Outer Harbor is not a Preservation District," McDonald explained.

"So, we're not commenting yet on any of the new design and we're not sure if we will have any role in commenting on the new design."

McDonald says a demolition application was submitted recently but the Preservation Board could not act because a key section was left blank. If it's resubmitted he says the board could consider it at next week's meeting.
