Comptroller raises fiscal concerns at the BMHA

WBFO News File Photo

The City of Buffalo's fiscal watchdog is taking a closer look at the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority after digging up millions of dollars worth of unpaid bills.

"We're always going to be looking. We're especially looking now," City Comptroller Mark Schroeder told WBFO News. The BMHA owes more than $3 million for police services and natural gas bills, some of which go back to 2005.

According to Schroeder, the review "will show you certain things, certain budgetary things, certain deficit things that will probably be concerning."

Schroeder says while he's not happy with what he's seeing, he is "delighted" that Council president Darius Pridgen recently called a timeout on writing any more checks for the BMHA.

The Authority's Executive Director was in Albany and unavailable for comment.
