The renovation of Niagara Street continues. Major work is coming for the section from Porter to Ontario.
As anyone who travels Niagara knows, the street is in rough shape with construction last summer starting to turn that around.
Visitors at a meeting Wednesday night in Riverside High School were given an opportunity to look at some proposals for what to do in the Porter Avenue to Ontario Street segment. Two smaller projects in that section will start in the fall with major work next year.
Businessman Francis Brobeil says he likes plans to slow traffic.
"This section of Niagara Street that I'm on is a speedway. The traffic is heavy, particularly when there is a blockage on the Thruway and it's dangerous for not only my business. There's a daycare center right next to me and I can't believe the number of people who blow by school buses," Brobeil said
Numerous people interviewed at the meeting called for speed controls, with one saying it would help businesses since slower drivers might see a store and want to stop and shop.
The project doesn't deal with the constant complaint that the Thruway has cut Riverside and Black Rock off from the Niagara River.
The public can review plans at a workshop Thursday night at the Atrium @ Rich's from 6 to 8 p.m.
