Chestnut Ridge Park hosts Polish Kulig

The second annual Polish Kulig will be held Sunday at Chestnut Ridge in Orchard Park. The word Kulig means “sleigh ride,” and it’s what the old Polish nobility would describe as winter parties.

Event organizer Jim Lawicki said this event will be more restrained than what's usually seen during the popular Dyngus Day festival.

"It's more of a family-friendly environment," Lawicki said. "We don't serve any alcoholic beverages.

"This is very traditional."

The Kulig, which runs from noon until 5 p.m., includes Polish folk singers, face-painting, and crafts.

Because of the lack of snow though, there will be horse-drawn wagon rides rather than sleigh rides.
