Efforts to improve services for veterans and ensure the future of military bases in upstate New York were key topics Wednesday as the chairman of the State Senate's Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs toured the region.
Senator Thomas Croci was invited to the region by Senator Patrick Gallivan, an Elma Republican. They toured the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park and the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Croci told WBFO there are many challenges facing veterans.
"There have been some lags in vets coming home and getting the kind of mental health [services] that they need and their families need," said Croci. "So much of our recovery as vets involves our family getting that help."
During his visit to Western New York, Croci talked about the importance of promoting veteran-owned businesses. The Long Island Republican also underscored the importance of ensuring the future of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. He noted military facilities across upstate are important economic engines and play key roles in the war on terror.
