Screening of Holocaust film scheduled for tonight

A local Holocaust survivor says it's her duty to tell the world about life under Nazi control. Sophia Veffer says educating the public is important, especially in light of current events.

On this United Nations Holocaust Remembrance Day,  the film "Forget Us Not" seems more poignant than ever. It brings to life the "lesser known voices," the five million non-Jews who were exterminated, including the "Roma" and "Sisti" people, Catholic priests, homosexuals, and the disabled.

"We have still have the genocides," Veffer said. "We have all the turmoil in the Middle East. And we see these pictures of all these refugees fleeing in to Europe. It is the same as it was 70 years ago."

Veffer says the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo wants to educate the public about history repeating itself.

The film "Forget Us Not" is being shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Park School on Harlem Road in Snyder.
