An industrial accident at the Tonawanda Coke facility on River Road has claimed the life of a 60-year-old man.
"It just looks like an awful accident," said Tonawanda Police Joseph Captain Carosi.
Town of Tonawanda Police Captain Joseph Carosi tells WBFO News the victim 60 years old was already dead when police and paramedics arrived shortly after 8:30 Wednesday morning.
"It just looks like an awful accident," said Captain Carosi. "Once we got there and sized up the situation, we sent our detectives out to gather evidence and speak to witnesses. At this point, no foul play is suspected."
Carosi said the man's name has not been released, pending notification of family.
"Early reports and the dispatch of the call indicated that it was an elevator that what was involved," stated Carosi. But Carosi noted that it was an industrial elevator.
The Erie County Medical Examiner was called to the scene as well as OSHA.
"OSHA will conduct their own investigation," noted Carosi. "They will continue their investigation to determine if any other violations that they would have the realm of enforcing."
