Imperial Pizza expansion planned

Pizza is a very competitive business and a South Buffalo pizza landmark is expanding its complex to add sit-down dining and perhaps 50 employees.

Imperial Pizza is a familiar taste in the neighborhood and now will be spending nearly $2 million for a major expansion from just takeout to picking up your box or eating in.

The Planning Board has approved the project at Abbott and Eden. Construction will start soon with a goal of finishing late in August.

Co-owner David Powers says the goal is to be open for football season. Architect Mike Berger says it's a substantial project.

"There will be a two-story addition to the north side of the existing building for dining and some offices on the second floor," Berger said. "Also to the east and south of the existing building, there will be an addition for kitchen expansion."

Berger says the project adds about 7,400 square feet.

Powers says it's a big enough project that employment will rise from 50 to 100.
