Western New York finally has received a taste of winter with the recent snowfall. Some parts of ski country received as much as 14 inches of snow, and the temperatures have been cold enough for snowmaking machines to run at length. Holiday Valley has taken advantage of the weather and has opened its skiing season today.
Director of Marketing Jane Eshbaugh says that it is late in the year to open, but the resort is still expecting a successful season.
"Every year is different. You don't know kn
ow you did until April. So, yes, Christmas can be...it is normally very important to us, but we've got a whole season ahead of us, and we're confident that winter will arrive eventually."
Skiing options are limited today. There is one lift running and two slopes open.
Eshbaugh remains optimistic that the manmade snow will last through a coming warm spell and carry the resort into the chills of January.
