After a record-setting December nearly devoid of snow, area ski resorts are finally beginning to open.
Holiday Valley in Ellicottville will welcome the start of its 2015-2016 season on Sunday at 10 a.m.
General Manager Dennis Eshbaugh said the mountain has received 10 to 14 inches of natural snow so far, and it continues to fall.
Holiday Valley invested heavily in a new automated snowmaking system, which resort officials say has been critical to opening the resort as well. Snowmaking will continue on 10 slopes as long as temperatures permit.
