Missing North Tonawanda fisherman found dead in Lake Erie

U.S. Coast Guard

The body of a missing North Tonawanda kayaker was found in the waters of Lake Erie late Tuesday morning.  Andrew Lasek, 42, went missing on Sunday, after he launched his vessel from Sturgeon Point in Evans for a fishing trip.

U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards began searching for Lasek by water and by air Monday night when they learned he never returned. Crews worked with officials from the Evans Police Department, Customs and Border Protection and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in the search.

Lasek's kayak was found this morning about four nautical miles north of Sturgeon Point. About an hour later, his body was found about a mile from shore.

An investigation is underway.
