Buffalo has experienced a higher increase in the number of construction jobs than any other city in the Northeast.
Business First newspaper analyzed data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and found the number of local construction jobs soared by more than 28 percent since 2010. That's better than in Boston, New York City and Philadelphia.
Mayor Byron Brown is touting the numbers.
"It shows that the work the public and private sectors have been doing to transform this city is working and is being recognized nationally and internationally," Brown said.
Brown said $5.5 billion in new economic development activity is underway, which is expected to create 12,000 new jobs.
Brown said his administration has worked hard to create a more business friendly environment in City Hall by simplifying the permitting process.
