The conviction of Sheldon Silver has again raised questions about the distribution of benefits in Albany. The former Assembly speaker was immediately removed from the legislature after being found guilty on seven counts of corruption. Silver has already filed paperwork to receive his pension, a benefit that could equal nearly $100,000 per year.

Lawmakers are pressuring Governor Cuomo for reforms that would eliminate such benefits for state politicians found guilty of corruption.
