Elected officials blindsided by plan for casino revenue

Chris Caya WBFO News

Changing Albany's revenue sharing formula for the Seneca Niagara Casino is going to take cooperation, according to Assemblyman John Ceretto (D-Lewiston). Ceretto says he heard about Senator Robert Ortt's recent proposal in the media.

"It works better as you work as a team. Since we both are representatives of Niagara Falls, that I think that we would have a better chance of getting more of the pie for casino funds," Ceretto said.

Under current law, one-quarter of the casino's revenue goes to the state and Albany keeps 75%. The rest is shared with local governments. Ortt (R,C,I North Tonawanda) wants to "flip the formula" and give the majority of the revenue to Niagara Falls for economic development and job creation.
