Another hotel planned for downtown Buffalo

Ellicott Development currently operates eight hotels and is planning more. The latest project would be located near Franklin and Tupper in downtown Buffalo.

Development Director Tom Fox told the city Planning Board Monday he expected to deliver plans in about a month, although he says the company is planning a hotel, residence and commercial complex wrapped around the old Buffalo Christian Center at Pearl and Tupper.

Right now, the only use for that building is the Road Less Traveled Theatre, which will stay. Other space in the building will provide meals service for the planned 190-room hotel and the apartments and commercial space.

From its days as a clubhouse for the Eagles fraternal order, the building has an indoor roller rink, pool and basketball court, along with the Forbes Theatre.

The new 12-story tower would be built in a rectangular space behind the old Christian Center building, potentially including an apartment building at the corner of Tupper and Franklin. The new building will be adjacent to the Theatre District and not far from Chippewa Street and Shea's.
