UB professor reacts to Paris terror attacks

A UB professor who spent time in France earlier this year is expressing relief that she didn't lose any friends in Friday's terror attacks in Paris. Amy Graves Monroe says she was closely following social media in the hours after the attacks, checking to make sure the people she knew were safe.

Monroe says she lived in the neighborhood where some of the attacks occurred. She says it's much like Buffalo's Allentown neighborhood, populated by young professionals.

"I think the closest example in Buffalo would be Allen Street or Chippewa," Monroe said.  "It would be like someone coming in with a machine gun into Nietzche's or somewhere else where young people congregate."

Monroe says she was surprised at the militaristic tone of the French president in his reaction to Friday's attack. She describes that as new and different.
