The Cantalician Center for Learning celebrated the opening of its Diversified Labor Solutions division on Friday. The Center has taken the lead in responding to New York's effort to move people with disabilities out of sheltered workshops and into their communities. Darren Lisicki, Director of Employment Services for Diversified Labor Solutions, states that the division will actually assist a wider audience.
"We reached out to the local community and worked with a lot of local agencies to bring in some of the refugee population that may have been looking for employment. So, those individuals that come through, maybe, other programs, Catholic Charities and Jericho Road, Journey's End, those types of programs, we also offer them employment, possibly their first job ever. So, diversified in where we provide the service, but also who we provide the service with."
Diversified Labor Solutions is located in the Tri-Main Center and currently employs more than 200 people. The division can provide labor for a variety of packaging needs, shipping, collating and other business needs.
