Charges unlikely against Patrick Kane

It now appears no criminal charges will be filed against hockey star Patrick Kane in connection with an alleged rape in early August. The Buffalo News cites three sources who say the case will not go to a grand jury.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita would not comment on what his office is planning to do. But at a news conference in late September, Sedita outlined the options.

"There will be one of two actions that will be undertaken by this office. One is the case will be administratively closed. Or this case will be presented to an Erie County grand jury," Sedita said at the time.

One of the Buffalo News sources has been told the case will be "administratively dismissed."

A Buffalo woman claimed she was raped by Kane at his Hamburg lakefront home during the early morning hours of August 2nd. Kane has denied the allegations.

The case took a turn in Kane's favor in late September when a test found no trace of his DNA in the woman's genital area. Shortly after that, the victim's mother was accused of engaging in a hoax involving a rape evidence bag.
