Jamestown Community College locked down after threat made against campus

Jamestown Community College went into a campus-wide "lockout" Friday afternoon. Students, faculty and staff were asked to abruptly leave the academic campus after a threatening phone call was received.JCC Vice President for Communications Kirk Young says the call was made to the campus switchboard just before 2 p.m.

"We called the police immediately. They were able to trace the phone call. They were able to determine that the phone call came from the library in the City of Jamestown which is a little ways away," Young told WBFO.

Young says security footage from the library shows a male individual placing the call on a pay phone and leaving the building, but not heading towards the campus. The nature of the threat has not been made public and Young says campus security personnel and senior members of JCC's administration are remaining on site as the investigation continues.

"We've locked all the doors, canceled all of our activities for the night and our residence halls are in a lockdown situation where the students are being asked to remain in their rooms," Young said.

UPDATE: Late Friday, the college issued the following statement:

Today's closing of our Jamestown campus was done as a precautionary measure due to a threat phoned in to the college. All events on campus have been cancelled for October 30. The campus will reopen at 7 a.m. on October 31. Residence hall students are allowed to leave and reenter with keycard authentication and identification.
