Homeowners in Erie County should find a property tax rebate check in their mailbox this fall and next. That's according to County Executive Mark Poloncarz.Poloncarz says the New York state Division of Budget recently accepted the Government Efficiency Plan submitted by the County and dozens of municipalities. Rebate amounts will vary depending on a person's STAR exemption.
"Someone who lives in a less-valued home, in a community that has a lower tax rate to begin with, may see a check of $25.00 to $30.00. And someone who lives in a very valuable home, where your taxes are higher, could see easily over $100.00. There's no doubt about that," Poloncarz said.
The state's Property Tax Freeze Rebate is a three year program enacted as part of last year's budget to encourage local governments and school districts to generate long-term tax relief.
